Meet Blaze the Brave

Black Hawk College launches a new mascot

As part of our 80th Anniversary celebration, Black Hawk College introduced Blaze the Brave, a spirited new black-and-yellow hawk mascot. Selected by students and employees, Blaze embodies the pride, determination and enthusiasm of the Braves.

“Blaze represents something we see in our students every day – determination, hard work and a drive to keep moving forward,” said Black Hawk College President Dr. Jeremy Thomas. “Blaze will be here to bring Braves together, build Black Hawk pride and cheer on our students.”

Born to Be Brave

Blaze the Brave grew up in a forest near rumbling volcanoes, where challenges were met with perseverance instead of fear. Blaze was always determined and passionate, never shying away from hard work or tough obstacles.

Blaze is the fastest of all the Braves in the forest and loves building community. Blaze also enjoys finding the highest perch to look out over the bright red and orange trees.

While looking for a new place to call home, Blaze discovered Black Hawk College and recognized the same fire among its students, who balanced jobs, families, athletics and academics while pursuing ambitious goals.

Blaze will cheer on the sidelines, give high fives, and encourage students in the hallways. Blaze spreads enthusiasm across campus and reminds every Brave that success comes from staying motivated, learning, and moving forward with determination.

Note: While Blaze brings a fresh face to campus, the college’s name, logos and proud Braves identity remain unchanged.
