Celebrating 80 Years of BHC
Black Hawk College marks its milestone anniversary with a vibrant celebration and the debut of a new mascot.
In September Black Hawk College marked its 80th anniversary with a vibrant ‘80s-themed celebration and the exciting debut of our new mascot, Blaze the Brave.
More than 150 guests—including students, staff, alumni, retirees and community members—joined the festivities at the Quad-Cities Campus gym. The event featured free food, a live band, a candy bar and a fun photo booth.
Dr. Jeremy Thomas, president of Black Hawk College, welcomed attendees and reflected on the college’s legacy: “For 80 years, generations of students have walked through our doors, built careers and strengthened the communities we call home,” he said.
“A lot has changed since 1946, but what has not changed is our commitment to our students and our region,” he added. “We are here to create opportunities, develop talent and help our students build a future for themselves and their families.”
One of the best moments of the evening was welcoming Blaze the Brave our new black-and-yellow hawk mascot. Students and employees voted to choose Blaze, who represents the determination, hard work, and spirit found across our college community.
“Blaze represents something we see in our students every day – determination, hard work and a drive to keep moving forward,” Dr. Thomas said. “From the sidelines to the hallways,” he said. “Blaze will be here to bring Braves together, build Black Hawk pride and cheer on our students.”
