Troy Lewis
Troy Lewis turned a passion for landscaping into a successful business built on creativity, hard work, and community commitment. Through entrepreneurship, mentorship, and charitable involvement, Troy has helped shape outdoor spaces and invested in the people and organizations that strengthen the Quad Cities region.
Growing a Passion Into a Business
Troy discovered his passion for landscaping at a young age while mowing lawns and shoveling snow throughout his neighborhood. After graduating from Moline High School in 1984, he attended Black Hawk College from 1984 to 1986, where he also played baseball for the Braves.
Troy later transferred to Western Illinois University to study horticulture and landscape design, earning his bachelor’s degree in 1988. During college, he worked part-time for a local landscaping company to gain hands-on industry experience and further develop his skills.
After beginning his professional career in the Quad Cities landscape industry, Troy and his wife launched Heritage Landscape Design in 1995.
Building a Thriving Local Business
What began as a small operation in the basement of Troy’s home with two employees and approximately $125,000 in annual revenue has grown into one of the region’s successful landscaping companies.
Today, Heritage Landscape Design employs approximately 45 people and generates more than $6 million in annual revenue while continuing to serve residential and commercial clients throughout the Quad Cities area.
Heritage has also contributed to projects at Black Hawk College, including landscaping for the college’s new baseball field and improvements to Building 3.
Investing in People and Community
Throughout his career, Troy has remained committed to mentoring young people and helping others develop strong work habits, leadership skills, and confidence.
He has coached youth basketball and baseball, using sports to teach the value of teamwork, dedication, friendship, and hard work.
Under Troy’s leadership, Heritage Landscape Design has also become a strong supporter of nonprofit and community organizations focused on improving the lives of children and families. The company has partnered with organizations including the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Special Olympics, and United Way Worldwide, as well as numerous local programs supporting education, youth development, and community wellness.
Through business leadership, mentorship, and philanthropy, Troy continues to make a lasting impact throughout the Quad Cities community.
