Kenneth E. Allison
Kenneth E. Allison has dedicated his career to improving public health, mentoring young people, and advancing opportunities for underserved communities. Through leadership in healthcare oversight, community service, and advocacy, he has made a lasting impact both professionally and personally.
A Foundation Built at Black Hawk College
East Moline native Kenneth E. Allison attended Black Hawk College, where he was a member of the track team that captured the state outdoor championship in 1976. His achievements as a student-athlete and scholar earned him inclusion in the 1977 Talent Roster of Outstanding Minority Community College Graduates.
Leadership in Public Health and Healthcare Oversight
Kenneth went on to build a distinguished career in healthcare administration and public health oversight.
He became the first Black male program manager for the State Health Facilities Department within the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, leading teams of nurses, social workers, and dietitians who inspect hospitals and nursing homes.
He also served as a federal health quality review specialist within the Survey and Certification Branch of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, part of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, helping oversee healthcare quality and compliance efforts.
A Commitment to Mentorship and Community Service
Throughout his life, Kenneth has remained deeply committed to service and mentorship.
As a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., he participated in numerous community initiatives, including delivering Thanksgiving food baskets to families in need, supporting math and science tutoring programs, assisting students pursuing higher education, and contributing to cancer research and charitable fundraising efforts.
Through Big Brothers Big Sisters of America in Denver, Kenneth mentored seven young men, helping guide them toward successful futures that included college, military service, and family life.
He also served as vice president of the American Federation of Government Employees Local 1923 and as treasurer for Eta Sigma Gamma, a professional health science honorary organization.
Kenneth’s advocacy and leadership extended into civic engagement as well. He attended the Congressional Black Caucus and participated in the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, where he discussed issues related to Black progress, health, and leadership with elected officials and policymakers. He also had the honor of attending Barack Obama’s second presidential inauguration.
Through public health leadership, mentorship, and community service, Kenneth has devoted his life to helping others and creating opportunities for future generations.
