David VanLandegen

David’s career in juvenile justice, probation services, and community leadership reflects a lifelong commitment to helping others and strengthening the Quad Cities region. Through decades of public service and volunteer involvement, he has worked to improve the lives of children, families, and communities across western Illinois.

David VanLandegen A Career Dedicated to Public Service

David VanLandegen graduated from Black Hawk College in 1974 with an Associate in Arts degree in general studies.

He continued his education at Illinois State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1977, before completing a master’s degree in law enforcement and criminal justice administration at Western Illinois University.

David began his professional career in 1977 as a juvenile probation officer with the 14th Judicial Circuit assigned to Rock Island County. His leadership abilities and commitment to serving youth and families led to promotions as deputy chief of juvenile probation and later deputy chief overseeing adult probation services.

In 1988, David was appointed director of court services for Rock Island County, a role in which he also oversaw court services operations in Whiteside County for a period of time.

Leadership Throughout the Community

In addition to his professional career, David has remained deeply involved in civic and educational organizations throughout the Quad Cities region.

Over the years, he has served on the boards of numerous community organizations, including the Metropolitan Youth Program, the Boys and Girls Club, the Rock Island Beautification Commission, the Black Hawk Area Special Education District, and the Rock Island-Milan Education Foundation.

David also demonstrated his commitment to education through public service, winning election to the Rock Island-Milan Board of Education in 1984 and serving two terms.

A Lasting Impact on Families and Youth

David’s dedication to children, education, and community well-being has earned recognition from organizations including the NAACP Rock Island County Chapter and the Child Abuse Council, now known as EveryChild.

While his professional accomplishments and community contributions are extensive, David considers his greatest role to be within his own family. He treasures being a husband to his wife of more than four decades, Cindy; a father to Luke and Sarah; and “Papa” to nine grandchildren.
