Celebrating Building 2 Renovation

In September, dozens of guests filled the second floor of Building 2 to celebrate the top-to-bottom renovation of the 55-year-old facility.

After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, guests toured the 66,000-square-foot building, now home to the college’s career and technical education (CTE) programs.

“Building 2 may not have a fancy name, but it represents everything important to Black Hawk College — opportunity, innovation and student success,” said Dr. Jeremy Thomas, BHC president.

The two-story facility at the Quad-Cities Campus includes: a 4,000-square-foot addition with welding lab, fabrication lab, grinding room and tool crib; 11 classrooms, 8 labs and 3 group study rooms; Programs such as Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD), Computer Information Systems (CIS), Cybersecurity, Engineering Technology, Industrial and Preventative Maintenance, esports and Mechatronics.

The project was the culmination of more than a year of construction that retooled the former science building for the future.
